Here’s the first trailer for the new anime movie, When Marnie Was There, from the cream of the crop of the Japanese studios . . . Studio Ghibli.
A tale of love, loneliness, and friendship, When Marnie Was There is the story of an emotionally distant adolescent girl, who upon being sent to live with relatives in the countryside becomes obsessed with an abandoned mansion, and infatuated with a girl who lives there; a girl who may or may not be real. The film has been labelled – whether fairly or unfairly – as Ghibli Gothic.
The film opens in UK cinemas on June 10th 2016, screening in both Japanese and English. The English versions’s cast includes Kiernan Shipka, Hailee Steinfeld, Kathy Bates, Ellen Burstyn, Catherine O’Hara and John C. Reilly.
