It’s bad news for the many fans of the Canadian supernatural series, ‘Lost Girl’, in that it is coming to an end after five seasons but at least there will be a conclusion to the long-running saga. Starring Anna Silk as Bo, the succubus from the world of the Fae, which basically means that she has the power to be super-attractive to humans so much that they die in the process, she continues her enduring quest to find her origins.

In this series, we are quite pleased to know that she eventually finds the answer but will it be the answer she hopes it will be? You can guarantee there will trouble on the way. That’s essentially what this final season is all about.

One thing that strikes you about ‘Lost Girl’ is that there are a multitude of characters, so many it becomes difficult to remember who is who. They also have a range of powers of the supernatural, mythical powers to humans who can’t understand them or even know of their existence. The fifth season, as mentioned, deals with Bo’s origins. It contains a mixture of episodes, some with the continuing story of this quest and others with stand-alone stories dealing with individual plots. There are a total of 16 episodes to watch.

It begins with a double part pair entitled ‘Like Hell’. In this, she tries to get into Valhalla to rescue Kenzi, who has been there since the last season. In another episode, they become detectives to track down the killer of an American football player and you can guess the perpetrator will be linked to the Fae world. There is even a tornado released by supernatural culprits in the episode entitled ‘Here Comes The Night’ but it is in the later episodes where we get down to the nitty-gritty.

Family secrets become known in ‘Family Portrait’. In the last couple of episodes, Bo discovers the identity of her father, so ending the quest, however, will she like the results? Say no more, it would be a spoiler. Sufficient to say, it’s all very exciting and good to watch.

So ends a magnificent series, which was essentially under-rated. Perhaps if it had been American instead of Canadian it would have been better accepted but, even at that, it did receive good ratings and lasted for five seasons, more so than lots of other fantasy dramas on the market.

In general, the acting has been very good, likewise scriptwriting. With no bad episodes and plenty of good ones, it makes for good viewing for the general public. Because of some sexual content, it’s no use for younger audiences but it does receive greater claim from older people. It is all available on DVD and Blu-ray and it’s well worth watching. One to recommend!
