‘Dark Shadows: The Last Stop’ ticks all the boxes for a good old spooky story which is part of the tradition of the ‘Dark Shadows’ audio books. They have been getting better and better and this one, by David Llewellyn, is a great two-hander with Jerry Lacy reprising his TV role as private investigator Tony Peterson. As an added bonus, we have W. Morgan Shepherd, who you may remember from TV ‘Doctor Who: The Impossible Astronaut’. He certainly lends a certain cachet with his gravelly bourbon-soaked voice.
Tony Peterson is on the train to Collinsport and he’s contemplating an offer from a lawyer friend. It’s certainly given him something to ponder. Encountering an old tramp he gets into a discussion he’d rather not have. It’s not long before he is contemplating another offer. This is turning into a journey where ‘The Last Stop’ might be sooner than he thinks.
This story reminds me of the classic ‘Twilight Zone’ or ‘Outer Limits’ and the combination of actors is irresistible. Possibly only ‘The Man In Black’ could present a darker scenario this is an impressively and enthralling production which relies completely on the voice talents of the two actors to draw us in.
