Geoff Willmetts has been editor at SFCrowsnest for some 15 plus years now, showing a versatility and knowledge in not only Science Fiction, but also the sciences and arts, all of which has been displayed here through editorials, reviews, articles and stories. With the latter, he has been running a short story series under the title of ‘Psi-Kicks’
If you want to contribute to SFCrowsnest, read the guidelines and show him what you can do. If it isn’t usable, he spends as much time telling you what the problems is as he would with material he accepts. This is largely how he got called an Uncle, as in Dutch Uncle. He’s not actually Dutch but hails from the west country in the UK.

First Maitz: Selected Works by Don Maitz (book review)

That ‘Science Fiction And Fantasy Artists Of The Twentieth Century: A Biographical Dictionary’ brought up cover artist Don Maitz and because his work is mostly in the USA, I added one of his two books, ‘First Maitz: Selected Works’ to my list to have a look at. Those of you who are familiar with my […]

Write! Shoot! Edit!: A Complete Guide To Teen Filmmakers by Deborah S. Patz (book review).

As the title, ‘Write! Shoot! Edit!: A Complete Guide To Teen Filmmakers’, suggests, Deborah S. Patz’ book is aimed at teen-agers who have a yen to become film-makers. Patz describes how she started that way herself so her lessons aren’t out of other books but her own experience. The book is divided into three sections: […]

The Art Of Michael Whelan (book review)

Now here’s one book you’ll only be able to get on the second-hand market and the third of Michael Whelan’s artbooks. In something I haven’t seen before, the main text pages are on what can only be described as textured paper and the colour art on the more standard dulled gloss paper used at the […]

Planet Of The Apes: The Original Topps Trading Card Series by The Topps Company and Gary Gerani (book review)

Unlike the other trading cards books Abrams have released so far, ‘Planet Of The Apes: The Original Topps Trading Card Series’ introduced by former Topps creative director Gary Gerani, this book covers all of their Apes card sets. So what you have is a 46 card set for the original 1969 film ‘Planet Of The […]

Back Issue # 97 July 2017 (magazine review)

This issue of ‘Back Issue’ is devoted to bird people or rather super-heroes with name associations to them more than powers similar to birds. Editor Mike Eury gives a list of characters that have already been covered in earlier issues and this issue is predominately DC characters. Having said that, both lists seem to omit […]

Alien And Philosophy edited by Jeffrey Ewing and Kevin S. Decker (book review).

This time, the ‘Alien’ films get looked at in 19 chapters about their philosophy from various people. As much as I wanted to see this film covered in the ‘And Philosophy’ books, I would have thought it would have been prudent to have waited until after ‘Alien: Covenant’ had come out if for no other […]

Doctor Who season 10 episode 8. The Lie Of The Land by Toby Whithouse.

Truth! From here in there are spoilers! I’m definitely going to have to reset the DVD recorder next week. Fortunately, I did a manual over-ride and, for this episode, I needed to watch it a second time. Throughout my watching, I kept getting reminded of elements of couple other times the Earth has been invaded […]
